Aftershock: Black Maternal Health and the Power of Community with Tonya Lewis Lee

Today we have the incredible honor of speaking to producer, film director, writer, entrepreneur, and women’s health advocate, Tonya Lewis Lee. With the release of her most recent documentary, Aftershock, we dive deep into the film’s impact, the present state and future of Black maternal health, and the inspiring power of community throughout the film and in real life.

Lee has been delivering meaningful content for over twenty years that resonates with marginalized communities and explores the personal impact of social justice issues. Lee’s work includes film and TV features such as The Watsons Go to Birmingham, She’s Gotta Have It which she co-produced with her husband, Spike Lee, as well as Monster. Lee is also an acclaimed author of children’s and young adult books – including best-seller Please, Baby, Please and she founded the premium vitamin supplement brand Movita Organics to foster better health outcomes for women.
